Privacy policy
This policy explains how M.A.S Accounting & Taxation Services collects, uses, stores and protects your personal information, in line with the Privacy Act 2020.
Last updated: 13 October 2026
What we collect
When you use the form on our website, we collect your name, phone number, email address and anything you write in your message.
If you become a client, we also collect the information we need to do your accounting and tax work. This can include your IRD number, financial records, property and business details, and identity documents.
Why we collect it
- To reply to your enquiry and arrange your free tax assessment.
- To provide accounting and tax services to you.
- To deal with Inland Revenue (IRD) on your behalf, when you have authorised us to.
- To meet our legal obligations, including tax record-keeping and anti-money laundering rules.
We are a reporting entity under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009. This means we must verify the identity of our clients and keep some records to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for marketing without your permission.
Who we share it with
We only share your information when we need to, for the reasons above. This may include:
- Inland Revenue and other government agencies, when acting for you or when the law requires it.
- Your previous accountant or other advisers, where you ask us to obtain information from them.
- Service providers who help us run our business, such as our accounting software providers, Xero and MYOB, and our website host.
How we store and protect it
We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe from loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
Client records are kept in Xero, in MYOB and as manual records.
Messages sent through our website form are processed and stored by our website host, Netlify, Inc. Netlify is required to protect that information. Our host may also keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
Netlify, Xero and MYOB may store information on servers outside New Zealand.
Our website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only as long as we need it. Client tax records are generally kept for at least seven years, as required by New Zealand tax law. Some records are also kept for the periods required under anti-money laundering law. Enquiry details are kept only as long as we need them to respond to you, or as long as the law requires.
Your right to access and correct your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within 20 working days.
If something goes wrong
If a privacy breach happens that has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner as soon as we can.
